Finally catching up to dine at one of Melbourne’s favourite, White Mojo, surprisingly not for brunch but for dinner instead! White Mojo + has opened yet another location on top of the other two they already have in Melbourne CBD and Balwyn, and they have extended their menu which offers a new range of delicious dinner dishes!

I have to say, as soon as I stepped into the restaurant i was awed by the clean white interior with a nice addition of pastels of blue and mint green. The glass divider, garden feature wall and wooden interior creates a modern provincial and homey vibe which instantly made me feel cozy and relaxed.

The White Mojo team never disappoints when it comes to creating innovative fusion dishes combining flavours from all of the world. For starters, we chose the cured salmon which showcased another one of their specialties, coffee. The coffee flavour on the salmon was quite subtle and perfectly combined with a smooth creamy aioli and fresh pickles to cleanse the palate. The sesame rice crisps not only finessed the whole presentation, but also added some crunch to complete the dish. This was hands down my favourite dish of the night for obvious reasons, amazing flavours, interesting idea of adding coffee to the dish and of course, it is incredibly photogenic.
I can never get sick of soft-shell crabs, it is one of the most versatile proteins and definitely one of my favourites. The crispy batter was perfectly contrasted with the soft buns; the slaw and cucumber added a perfect zesty taste to the roll which was the perfect balance against the creamy chipotle mayo.

Bubblegum Wagyu Sliders – – bubblegum candied bacon, fried onion rings, charcoal aioli, cheddar, corichon and thick cut chips

The mains took me to Italy and America. First up is the linguine pescatore which was full of flavours and covered in different kinds of seafood, the way I like my pasta. The anchovies and capers were excellent additions to the sauce as they both added extra depth of flavours along with the garlic, chilli and herbs.
Inspired by American maple bacon, White Mojo put their own spin by candying the protein with bubblegum. I understand that it sounds a bit eccentric, but the bubblegum flavour is quite subtle and blends well with the aioli, cheddar and crispy onion rings.

Last but not definitely not least, at the end of the night, desserts took us to Puerto Rico and Asia.
I’m being completely honest here, I thought Pina Colada is from Hawaii but I wasn’t sure so I had to ask my trusty Dr. Google, and turns out that it originated in Puerto Rico. I love seeing classic flavours in different desserts form because that’s how i see how creative people get. The Pina Colada dessert demonstrates the pineapple flavour in a jelly and compressed fruit, while the coconut was showcased in a foam, gelato and crumble form. They also added a layer of mango coulis that adds extra sweetness to counteract the tangy pineapple and creamy coconut.
Kaffir lime and lemongrass is one of my favourite flavour combinations so the Tropical Paradise was our next choice of dessert. The panna cotta was infused with this flavour combo, silky smooth and quite light. The curd and fruit salad added a delightful tang to the dish while the black sesame sable gave a nice crunch.
